Registration of scan data
This component allows an efficient calculation of transformations between multiple scans which are taken from different directions, without a priori knowledge of the scanning directions.

In order to generate a single object from multiple overlapping scans, transformations between the partial reconstructions have to be computed. Cyfex AG developed an efficient technique to efficiently calculate these transformations. The procedure can be divided in the following three parts:
- Mapping of the registration of multiple data sets to a short sequence of subsequent pairs of data sets.
- Automatic pre-positioning of a pair by minimizing the error between the scanned surfaces.
- Improved ICP algorithm (Iterative Closest Point) in order to refine the transformations to further minimize the error between the scanned surfaces.
