3D Data Preparation

From the real world into the virtual world

Most scan systems deliver several point clouds of the scanned data that are arbitrarily positioned in space. These points are not placed in correlation, thus yielding no description of the scanned surface. Additionally, due to the large number of images, there are also several independent fields of view that must first be correlated.

Cyfex AG has the required knowledge and technology to register the fields of view against one another in real-time and to reconstruct a surface from the resulting scatter diagram. Based on the use case, volumetric or surface-based approaches are used for this purpose. The resulting surfaces (triangulations) can be smoothed in order to reliably eliminate artifacts that result from noise. Holes that result from missing data can also be filled using specialized heuristics.

3D data is typically memory-intensive. In the post-processing of scan data, the amount of data can be reduced without a detectable loss of information, thereby enabling meaningful data processing. At the same time, it is possible to reliably identify features such as edges completely automatically and without noticeable computation time. Interactive tools can also be integrated in software in order to efficiently provide the software with assistance during identification of the surface features that are being sought.

From our practical experience, we already have a large number of algorithms for 3D data preparation. This allows us to acquire a specialized solution within the shortest time and with the lowest costs.
